With Ayanna Witter-Johnson at Podium Klassiek
What a pleasure to share the stage with Ayanna Witter-Johnson at the last Podium Klassiek of this season! It was a preview of our concert along with much of her music on August 4 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the concert is now sold out.
The song we played here is about Sojourner Truth, a well-known activist for human rights, abolition and women’s rights in the US – who served under Dutch masters when she was still a slave. We are happy to be a part of this story which is evolving and continuing and it reminds us of Rhiannon Giddens’ song ‘At the buyers’ option’ which tells a similar story and which we included on the album ‘But Not My Soul ‘, which will be released in Spring 2024.
