NRC: Ragazze Quartet “new pillar” in classical music

We are very honoured by the expression of appreciation for our work in today’s essay by Joep Stapel in today’s newspaper NRC: ‘A quarter of a century of classical music: the roots have been affected, yet the sector is thriving. And the new music is more diverse than ever.’
NRC (Joep Stapel), 24 July 2024 – “It is at the level of individual musicians that the real suffering of the cuts is to be found[ …] On the other hand, blood is thicker than water. Relatively small-staffed ensembles like Klang, Ragazze Quartet and Holland Baroque have developed into new pillars. They organise their own festivals (Klang’s Musical Utopias), develop theatrical concert forms (Ragazze) or stretch genre boundaries with research and crossover (Holland Baroque).”

For years, we have been committed to the development of classical music and the string quartet repertoire in particular. In adventurous productions, we address socially relevant themes such as climate, the history of slavery, mourning and feminism, working with partners who share our goals, including recently Wonderfeel, Via Berlin, Conny Janssen Danst, Nynke Laverman, Caroline Shaw, Thomas Beijer and Jorinde Keesmaat. Also at our upcoming festival September Me, we will bring together unconventional combinations on stage and feature several premieres by Calliope Tsoupaki, Thomas Beijer and Wishful Singing, among others.
