The first single from the album ‘But Not My Soul’ is out now! it is the swinging ‘Juba,’ the third movement of String Quartet No. 2 by Florence Price. Listen to the single now via your favorite streaming service!
Florence Price was the first African-American woman to be recognized for her symphonies. Her String Quartet No. 2 is a pleasant mix of European romanticism, her ‘Southern’ roots and the emerging blues and African-American spirituals. In ‘But Not My Soul’ Ragaze Quartet stands up for Florence Price, whose music was forgotten for years. Unjustified, we think! Thankfully, her name has become more and more known in recent years (there is even a street in Amsterdam to be named after her!) and we want to contribute to her fame.
The album ‘But Not My Soul’, with the complete String Quartet No. 2 of Price, the ‘American’ String Quartet of Antonín Dvořák and ‘At the Purchaser’s Option’ by Rhiannon Giddens, will be released by Outhere Music/Channel Classics on 8 March 2024. Pre-order your cd copy by sending an email to ragazze@ragazzequartet.nl (€ 18 + shipping costs).
