Tango music, dance and poetic texts are the ingredients of this family tragedy
The Esperanza, once a glamorous cruise ship where the music of Papa Tango flourished, has had its day. When the eldest daughter Anna returns to the ship after years, which she left far behind for good reason, she is confronted with a world in which her father desperately tries to hold on to his glory days. In the confrontation with her father and her sisters Clara and Blanca, frustration, despair, longing, melancholy, pain and love resonate in the compelling music.
About Lost Tango
Orkater, Via Berlin and Ragazze Quartet have already created many special music theatre productions for festivals and flat-floor theatres. With Lost Tango they celebrate the tenth anniversary of Via Berlin, now for the first time with a large-scale performance.
For this anniversary, the Ragazze Quartet is supplemented by the famous tango trio of Carel Kraayenhof. In Lost Tango, two variations of the tango determine the atmosphere: the modern-classical tango nuevo by Astor Piazzolla and the contemporary tango rupturo by pianist and composer Julián Peralta.
The ambiguity of the tango, with its history of poverty, homesickness and glamour, is used in all its richness.

De Telegraaf
‘Tango music, dance and poetic lyrics are the ingredients of this family tragedy, sucking you into a melancholic atmosphere from minute one that you won't get out of easily.’
Theaterkrant
‘Her direction (Ria Marks) dances through the material as stylishly as the music does. From the live-created abrasive sounds at the beginning, which sound out the squeaking and creaking of the ship, to the beautiful alternation of danced and spoken scenes. Everything sways in this performance and we sway with it.’
Trouw
‘With rock-solid acting, old and new tango music and almost poetic lyrics like ‘everything is bearable, as long as you can pay your phone’, this performance about a musical family on a cruise ship sinking both literally and figuratively deserves five stars.’
Volkskrant
‘Play, song, dance and music (new & old tango) stylishly merge into hot-blooded performance. With peerless closing song by Polat.’
