Looking back at the Roaring Twenties and a look into the future

In ‘Roaring and Flirting’ the Ragazze Quartet acts like a mirror, taking the audience back to the roaring twenties ánd looking into what we think might be the future. Balancing between tension, hope, destruction and resurrection. Sometimes deadly serious, sometimes with a wink and a charm.

Next to the third string quartet by Béla Barók and the second by Erich Korngold, a new work will sound by Garth Knox, former viola player of the famous Arditti Quartet and groundbreaking composer.

About Roaring and Flirting

We live in turbulent times. Just like in the Roaring Twenties, when our ancestors yearned for an escape from a harsh reality. In this programme, Ragazze looks back on that legendary decade and looks ahead: where are we going?

The ominous, compact Third String Quartet by Béla Bartók stands next to the lighter Second String Quartet by Erich Korngold, the king of film music. Innovator Garth Knox composed a brand new work especially for Ragazze. Garth Knox, formerly violist of the famous Arditti Quartet, conceived a work that goes beyond rigid role patterns, with a leading role for equal exchange and spontaneous creation – core characteristics of a good string quartet.

We do not know what the future will look like, but Ragazze will certainly show you how it could sound. The Grom and the Flirt balances between hope, disaster and reconstruction, sometimes deadly serious, then again with a wink.
