With satisfaction we look back on a great weekend: the seventh edition of September Me – like every year with Flint Amersfoort as the vibrant festival heart – was a great success. Not least because of our sympathetic Artist in Focus this year; the Syrian clarinetist, composer and gifted storyteller Kinan Azmeh.
De Volkskrant wrote: “In an improvisation he proved himself as a man of velvet sound, a specialist also of the quarter tone, the mysterious universe between white and black keys in which music from Syria and the surrounding area excels.”
In the opening concert, Kinan shared the stage with artistic director Ragazze Quartet and the Amersfoorts Youth Orchestra. Later in the weekend he invited three musical friends for an evening full of improvisation, played with Slagwerk Den Haag, and performed the dinner concert on Saturday evening.
The theme of this year’s festival was New Roads, and the various programs and artists reflected that.
